Senior Medical Test Engineer
Remote-first, Hungary, Full-time or Part-time
We are looking for a Senior Medical Test Engineer to drive testing strategy, validation activities, and quality standards across complex regulated systems. This is a hands-on senior role combining strategic ownership with practical execution, including end-to-end test automation, manual testing, and improving testing practices across engineering teams.
You will work closely with engineering, product, regulatory, and clinical stakeholders to support reliable, scalable, and high-quality product development, while helping establish stronger quality-focused development and testing standards across the organization.

What we are looking for
You have strong experience in software testing within regulated industries and understand how to balance quality, speed, and technical complexity in modern engineering environments.
You are comfortable working both strategically and hands-on: defining test strategies, building automation, performing manual testing, improving release confidence, and helping engineering teams raise overall testing standards.
You are proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
Experience with complex systems involving software, hardware, AI/ML components, integrations, and distributed architectures is highly valuable.
We love sharing knowledge
This is the best way to gain experience and form a terrific community. 10 paid hours per month are dedicated to internal workshops. We mentor and receive mentorship, hold regular design critique sessions, and enhance our best practices. We create publications, product discoveries, case studies, and also speak at webinars and conferences.
What you will do
- Define and drive the overall test strategy across products and platforms
- Design, implement, and maintain end-to-end test automation frameworks and testing pipelines
- Perform hands-on manual testing for complex workflows, edge cases, and validation scenarios
- Lead testing activities across web, mobile (iOS, Android), backend, integrations, and offline-first systems
- Develop scalable testing approaches for software, hardware-integrated, and algorithmic systems
- Work closely with engineering teams to improve testing standards, release quality, and development practices
- Provide guidance to developers on testing methodologies, automation approaches, and quality-focused engineering practices
- Help establish and maintain testing expectations and scalable quality standards across the organization
- Support engineering teams in improving end-to-end testing coverage and automation maturity
- Ensure traceability between requirements, risks, tests, and releases where required
- Participate in verification and validation activities, including documentation and evidence generation
- Support release processes with risk-based testing and quality-focused decision-making
- Identify gaps in testing coverage, quality processes, and automation maturity, and proactively drive improvements
- Contribute to CI/CD and DevOps-oriented quality workflows
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure quality is embedded throughout the product lifecycle
You should have
- 8+ years of experience in software testing and quality engineering
- Strong experience designing and executing test strategies for complex systems
- Proven hands-on experience with end-to-end test automation
- Strong manual testing experience and excellent debugging/investigation skills
- Experience working in regulated industries such as medical, automotive, finance, aerospace, defense, or other compliance-driven environments
- Experience testing distributed systems involving backend services, APIs, mobile applications, integrations, and hardware-connected systems
- Familiarity with testing AI/ML or algorithm-driven systems
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and engineering workflows
- Ability to write code or scripting for automation and testing purposes
- Experience improving testing standards and engineering quality practices
- Ability to guide developers toward stronger quality and testing practices
- Strong communication skills, ownership mindset, and proactive approach
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment
Nice to have
- Experience in the medical industry or with Software as a Medical Device (SaMD)
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, FDA processes, or other medical regulatory frameworks
- Experience with QA processes, audit readiness, or validation documentation
- DevOps and CI/CD experience
- Experience with offline-first applications or distributed/offline-capable architectures
- ISTQB certification or relevant technical degree
What we offer
- International, remote-first team
- Flexible working hours
- Opportunity to work on complex, high-impact systems
- Modern engineering culture with autonomy, ownership, and the ability to influence architectural direction
- Continuous professional growth and learning opportunities
- A transparent and collaborative company culture
