Senior Medical Imaging Software Engineer

Remote-first, Hungary, Full-time or Part-time

We are looking for an engineer who can own the core imaging pipeline for a Class II medical device software product. You’ll architect and build the system from acquisition through clinical-grade output. You’ll collaborate closely with our well-rounded team of experienced web and application developers, QA specialists, and product experts.

What we are looking for

We are looking for an engineer with strong experience in medical imaging software who can work independently and take ownership of complex technical problems. You have hands-on experience with 3D reconstruction, DICOM, and imaging pipelines, and you are comfortable working across disciplines including engineering, QA, and product.

Core technical focus

  • 3D volumetric reconstruction from 2D source data
  • Spatial tracking system integration
  • DICOM implementation (read, write, networking)
  • Real-time image processing and quality metrics
  • Clinical workflow UI components

What you’ll do

  • 3D reconstruction framework that builds a consistent volumetric representation from spatially tracked 2D image sequences (e.g., freehand ultrasound data)
  • Spatial tracking integration with commercial electromagnetic or optical systems (e.g., NDI Aurora)
  • DICOM export pipeline producing standards-compliant image series that import cleanly into downstream clinical systems
  • Image processing modules for filtering, calibration correction, and quality metrics
  • Clinical user interface components for acquisition feedback, QA review, and workflow management

You should have

  • 5+ years building medical imaging or scientific imaging software
  • Deep experience with 3D reconstruction algorithms (voxel-based methods, interpolation from irregular samples, volumetric rendering)
  • Strong DICOM expertise-you’ve implemented SOP classes, debugged conformance issues, and made things work with PACS
  • Familiarity with spatial tracking systems (EM or optical) and coordinate transformations
  • Production experience in C++ and Python for image processing (ITK, VTK, SimpleITK, NumPy/SciPy)

Nice to have

  • GPU programming (CUDA/OpenCL) for accelerated reconstruction
  • Experience with IEC 62304 software lifecycle and medical device QMS
  • GPU acceleration, IEC 62304 experience

What we offer

  • International, remote-first team
  • Flexible working hours
  • Opportunity to work on complex, high-impact systems
  • Modern engineering culture with autonomy, ownership, and the ability to influence architectural direction
  • Continuous professional growth and learning opportunities
  • A transparent and collaborative company culture
  • Room for continuous professional growth-mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and diverse challenges
