Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Remote-first, Hungary, Full-time or Part-time

We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer who can take ownership of end-to-end ML development, from problem formulation through model deployment. You will design, build, and optimize machine learning solutions using real-world data, working closely with cross-functional teams including software engineers, researchers, and product stakeholders.

This role requires a strong balance between theoretical understanding and hands-on implementation, with a focus on delivering robust, production-ready models in a healthcare or clinical context. We particularly welcome candidates who are currently pursuing or have recently completed PhD studies-especially those working in sleep research or related domains—as this background aligns well with our problem space.

What we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced ML engineer with strong practical skills and a solid theoretical foundation. You are comfortable working independently, formulating research directions, and translating them into scalable solutions.

You have experience with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and are confident working with complex datasets, including image and multimodal data. Familiarity with MATLAB is also important for prototyping, analysis, or legacy system integration.

Core technical focus

• Applied machine learning and deep learning model development

• Working with real-world, noisy, and large-scale datasets
• Experimental design and performance evaluation

What you’ll do

• Design and develop machine learning and deep learning models for real-world applications
• Work with complex datasets: data exploration, preprocessing, feature engineering, and validation
• Build and optimize training pipelines using PyTorch and Python-based ML ecosystems
• Prototype algorithms and validate concepts using MATLAB, where appropriate
• Design and run experiments, evaluate model performance, and iterate based on results
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate models into production systems
• Contribute to architecture decisions and improve ML development workflows
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in machine learning and apply them where relevant

You should have

• 4+ years of experience in AI/ML research or applied machine learning
• Strong background in mathematics and computer science (statistics, linear algebra, optimization, algorithms)
• Solid understanding of machine learning and deep learning methods
• Hands-on experience with real-world datasets, including preprocessing and validation
• Strong Python skills and experience with scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas)
• Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch (preferred) or TensorFlow
• Practical experience with MATLAB
• Ability to independently design experiments and evaluate results
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

Nice to have

• Experience with computer vision or multimodal AI (images, video, 3D data)
• Experience deploying ML models into production environments
• Familiarity with MLOps tools and workflows
• Experience with large-scale or distributed training
• Background in research or publications in ML-related fields
• Experience in computer vision and multimodal data processing
• Experience with Healthtech or Medtech projects
• Ongoing or completed PhD studies, especially in sleep research or related fields
